Introduction –
Pandemic-centric films typically have a distinct but intangible quality to it. The undercurrent is usually fraught with anxiety, fear and sadness. Not this one. Everything about The Couple seems casual … right the beginning till the climax.
Synopsis –
“The Couple” is more of a love story than a pandemic theme. The film opens up to a lavish apartment and its two occupants, obviously the lead couple, working from home, chatting with their associates, colleagues and at the same time performing some of their personal chores. If that was not enough they also have the energy and the time to play Scrabble in between.
While Akriti aka Akku ( Shreya Dhanwanthary ) has successfully developed and about to launch bio-degradable diaper, Dippy ( Priyanshu Painyuli ) is into marketing of personal care / beauty products. Both appear happy and complement each other in a dozen ways. Unfortunately, that understanding quickly dissipates into the thin air when Akku is fired right after successfully strategizing a game changer product. While the couple expects a post of VP, in reality she gets a pink slip.
All hell breaks loose after she gets fired because of uncertain market conditions resulting from the pandemic … what else. Akku changes overnight – from a caring, understanding wife to a whining woman. Dippy tries his best to console her but Akku is simply not up to it. And then just as quickly the two reconcile. How? Check out the first episode of Unpaused – Naya Safar.
Analysis –
The settings look absolutely lavish, top of the line, posh. Pandemic seems like a thing of the past. It is only when the maid mentions the word do we realize the fact. On the performance front, both the actors have done really well. The problem is with the script, the story and the settings and not with the technique or talent.
