Introduction –
Yet another film which revolves around employee retaliation. In the short film Shame, we saw Swara Bhaskar planning and executing personal vendetta against one of the hotel guests, while this one seems even more bizarre, as a food aggregator delivery girl hits back after being humiliated by one of the customers. Although Shameless reached the qualifying round for Oscar consideration in Short Film category and even managed to reach the finals of 3rd edition of the Best of India Short Film Festival 2020, the story is simply baffling. But then, that is what dark comedy is all about.
Synopsis –
Praveen Chaddha ( Hussain Dalal ), a software engineer in his late 20’s / early 30’s and a loner orders food through an aggregator app. Now, this is where a series of coincidences occur. Every time the same employee delivers his parcel. That employee is Bharti ( Sayani Gupta ). What is bizarre is that Praveen curses, yells and even abuses her each time without a legitimate reason.
The series of bad encounters with Praveen pushes Bharti’s patience to the limit. During one of her trips to his house she knocks him out cold and ties him to the chair. What happens next is something we didn’t expect. Check out this short film to know what happened to Praveen and Bharti.
Analysis –
Agreed, there are a few people who behave disrespectfully with delivery boys / girls, but perpetually abusing someone is beyond our understanding. Moreover, most of these runners know how to handle abusive customers. They are trained to restrain their anger. Not in this case. The message here is … technology has turned humans unemotional. Somewhere down the path of digital revolution compassion has taken a back seat. There might be some truth to this viewpoint but overall, and in spite of being labeled dark comedy we are not really excited. On the performance front, Hussain Dalal and Sayani Gupta have done well which makes viewing a gratifying experience.
