Introduction –
There is a saying that kids are like clay; that they can be molded easily. Therefore, parents and teachers inculcate ethical values and teachings which later become the pillars of their life, turning them into moral citizens. Aaishappath, meaning Mother Promise, is based on one such teaching.
Synopsis –
Eight year old Soham ( Abhishek Bachankar ) is playing cricket with his friends and his cousin ( Almost same age ) Ninad in his chawl. Moments later, Ninad is declared “out”. However, Ninad refutes the decision and then to cement his conclusion he uses a strategy which most of Indian kids ( especially boys ) use it quite freely; Aaishappath.
That one promise gives Ninad another chance to bat. After the game is over Soham is worried because Ninad had lied. He fears that his aunt, Ninad’s mother would now die.
Since then Soham stalks her aunt, checking on her frequently, monitoring her well-being with his frequent concerns. Next day, Ninad, and his family bid goodbye and head back to their house. Once again Soham’s concern surfaces and he annoys his mother every few hours, asking her to check on his aunt.

Analysis –
Excellent characterization, impressive cinematography and a well-written script. Interestingly, these are the three fundamentals of a good film and Aaishappath ticks all these boxes without hesitation. Kids are difficult to direct, especially getting them to perform as per the character’s demand. Director Gautam Vaze has extracted the emotions beautifully. Credit also goes to Abhishek Bachankar who was spot on with his performance.
